October 4, 2023 - 00:00

For its next geological excursion the PGK will be travelling to Sardinia! From 4-8 October 2023, we will explore the southern parts of this Mediterranean island and enjoy its geology, archeology and culture. We will be hosted by Prof. Luca Costamagna from the University of Cagliari, who will guide us through a series of varied siliciclastic and carbonate successions from Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic age overlying the Variscan basement that forms the geological backbone of the island. In addition to the spectacular geology, there will be time to see ancient ruins or to make a trip to the beach. Of course, everything will be accompanied by fine Italian cuisine.

The excursion fee covers costs for the hotel room, meals, and local transport. Costs for airline tickets to Sardinia are not included in the excursion fee, and travel will have to be arranged individually. The excursion will start and end at Cagliari airport.

Start (04.10): around 13:00, from Cagliari airport. This day will be spent with a city trip and opening dinner + geological intro. Dinner and hotel are both in down-town Cagliari. Flying in later is an option.
Finish (08.10): the night of the 7th/8th we are aiming to sleep in Cagliari. No planned activities on the morning of the 8th.

The excursion is fully booked. It is possible to register for the waiting list, however.
