Monthly Lecture
Jerome Amory (Geothermal Energy Lead, PanTerra Geoconsultants) will talk about:
Key Success Factors of Deep Geothermal Energy in the Netherlands.
Please note: Revised lecture schedule. Social drinks begin at 17:30 and lecture from 18:00.
Abstract
With about 30 deep geothermal assets implemented to date, roughly 40 installed doublets, and many projects dynamically progressing through the maturation funnel, the development of deep geothermal energy in the Netherlands can be considered a success.
This lecture will highlight some of the main factors that contribute to this success. Some of these elements – such as the geological factors – are of course very familiar to many of us PGK members. But others may be more obscure, or even so mundane that we take them for granted.
The objective of this light touch presentation is to share some insights on what makes geothermal energy in the Netherlands so special, and hopefully trigger discussions for the PGK evening and beyond. The intent is not to dive into technical details, but rather to share the outcome of a personal reflection on the topic, with results that are of course open for debate.
About the presenter
Jerome Amory is a geologist with over two decades of international exposure delivering integrated O&G projects across the full resource exploration and development lifecycle. Since 2020 he has been leveraging this expertise to support the energy transition, with focus on deep geothermal energy systems.
Jerome graduated with an M.Sc. from Stanford University before joining Shell International in 1996. He completed the University of Neuchatel Deep Geothermal Energy Systems programme in 2020-21 and since then has been involved in geothermal projects in southern Belgium, Alsace, the Netherlands, and neighbouring regions. He has been leading geothermal energy projects at PanTerra since 2022.
